Trowel Bottle Opener

3D model description

I designed this keychain bottle opener in the shape of a hand trowel for my father. He had a business installing tile, marble, etc. for 45 years.

I am providing two versions: the one I printed for my Dad, and one without text.

This model requires that the US penny be added during the print process.

2.38 cm H x 5.41cm W x 12.41 cm L.

3D printing settings

Printer Brand:

Prusa

Printer:

Prusa Mk2

Supports:

Yes

Resolution:

200 um

Infill:

100%

Notes:
I put glue stick on the build surface. I printed this in PLA.

The handle needs supports to print this. My slicer (Slic3r) does not allow me to customize supports, therefore I had the dilemna of removing unwanted supports from the penny area, as I paused the print.

To remove the print from the build plate, I inserted a strong metal rod into the keychain hole, and used leverage to pry the print loose. The metal rod that I used is nearly the same diameter as the hole.

The trowel handle is not strong enough to pry the print off of the build plate, so use caution.

How I Designed This
I use Blender. The trowel shape (blade and handle) is based upon a photo of an antique trowel that is published at http://trowelcollector.blogspot.com/2014/04/.
