War Horse

3D model description

War horse sculpted in ZBrush. This is the most challenging model I ever printed. I had to split it, otherwise I wasn't able to print it as a whole.

I attached the whole model if someone can do a better job in printing the full model.

Model printed in bronze filament. I polished it later with XTC-3D. Very impressive polish!

3D printing settings

Printer: Creality CR-10

Rafts: Yes

Supports: Yes

Resolution: 0.16 - 0.1

Infill: 15% - 30%

Notes:

Nozzle diameter: 0.4mm

I recommend printing the horse with not less than 20% infill and 3 wall layers so the legs will not break during post processing.

I automatically and manually added support to the model parts using Simplify 3D.

If you print the model in parts, the knight should snugly fit onto the saddle, but I also recommend using super glue. The same with the sword, as I used super glue to weld the joint and the sword with the knight.

Creator

Started modeling back in the early 90s with Autodesk 3D Studio, when it used to ship with 16 3.5 floppy disks, and settled eventually with Maya as my favorite 3D modeling software, ZBrush and recently Fusion 360 with the aid sometimes of Adobe illustrator and Photoshop, mainly for creating alpha brushes/shapes.

Still fascinated with the evolution of 3D printing, as back then, models were eventually stored in folders and that's it. To print however those created 3D models, physically see them, touch them, place them right in front of you on the desk with different colors and materials, and wear them as jewelry is simply magical.

3D printing is a modern revolution, a movement as some like to call it, and I'm very glad to live it and be part of it, knowing that we are just starting, and that one day we will be laughing at the current FDM plastic filament based printers for being an old primitive technology.

HP Fusion color 3D printers will be on our desks one day with the price of current multicolored documents/images printers. No doubt about it :)
